The new Mercedes-Benz CLA is no longer just a compact coupe-styled sedan. In its latest generation it is fully electric, and the CLA250+ launched in Malaysia in August 2026 claims up to 792 km of WLTP range, one of the highest figures for any EV on sale locally. It is priced at RM274,888 on-the-road without insurance.
2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA250+ Price
| Variant | OTR Price (without insurance) |
|---|---|
| CLA250+ electric AMG Line | RM274,888 |
Two Manufaktur paints, Alpine Grey Solid and Patagonia Red Metallic, are available for an extra RM6,000. There is a single variant, so choosing is simple.
Motor and Performance
A single electric motor produces 272 PS (200 kW) and 335 Nm through a two-speed transmission. The sprint to 100 km/h takes 6.7 seconds, and the top speed is 210 km/h. The car sits on Mercedes' new MMA platform. It is quick enough for any road, though it is more about efficiency than raw speed.
Battery, Range and Charging
An 85 kWh NMC battery with 800V architecture gives up to 792 km of WLTP range, or 748 km with specified equipment. Energy consumption can be as low as 12.2 kWh per 100 km. DC charging reaches 320 kW and takes about 22 minutes from 10% to 80%, while 11 kW AC charging takes around nine hours for a full charge. One point to note is that the 400V DC converter is not offered, so 400V DC stations such as Tesla Superchargers are not compatible. Regenerative braking offers up to 200 kW with three levels and an adaptive mode.
MBUX Superscreen and Technology
The standard MBUX Superscreen includes a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and two 14-inch touchscreens, one dedicated to the front passenger. It runs the new MB.OS operating system. The virtual assistant uses ChatGPT and Bing for general queries and Google Gemini for navigation, while navigation uses Google Maps and is required to show compatible 800V chargers. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported, and the MB.Charge Public service handles payment.
Other Features
Multibeam LED headlights, 19-inch AMG wheels, a panoramic glass roof, a 360-degree camera, a Qi wireless charger, eight speakers, 64-colour ambient lighting, a hands-free powered boot and park assist are all standard.
Safety and Subscriptions
The CLA has eight airbags and MB.Drive Standard driver assistance. However, lane centring and autonomous lane changes require an MB.Drive Assist subscription, priced at RM169 per month, RM1,690 per year or RM4,059 for three years. Buyers should factor this running cost in.
Warranty
The car has a four-year, unlimited-mileage warranty and the battery is covered for eight years or 160,000 km.
Pros and Cons
- Pros: class-leading range, fast 800V charging, sleek design, very advanced infotainment, efficient
- Cons: some driver-assist features need a paid subscription, no 400V charging, only 272 PS, pricey for a compact sedan
Verdict
The CLA250+ is perhaps the most convincing electric Mercedes yet. If long range and technology are your priorities, it is an excellent choice. Just be aware of the subscription model for advanced assistance and the lack of compatibility with 400V chargers.
