Volvo's flagship electric seven-seater has received a major update for Malaysia. Launched on 8 September 2026, the 2026 EX90 now switches from imported (CBU) to locally assembled (CKD), which helps cut the price by RM14,000 to RM428,888 on-the-road without insurance. It also gets an 800V electrical architecture, more power and much faster charging.

Powertrain and Performance
The EX90 Twin Motor Performance has one motor on each axle and now produces 680 PS (500 kW), up from 517 PS. Torque is 870 Nm, 40 Nm lower than before, but 0-100 km/h drops from 4.9 to 4.2 seconds. Top speed is limited to 180 km/h. For a large seven-seat SUV, the acceleration is startling, yet the delivery should remain smooth thanks to the electric drive.
Battery, Range and Charging
The NCM battery is 106 kWh gross (103 kWh usable), slightly smaller than the 111 kWh unit it replaces, giving up to 617 km of WLTP range against 623 km previously. The real improvement is charging. The new 800V system accepts up to 350 kW DC, taking 10% to 80% in 22 minutes instead of 30, and adding about 250 km of range in 10 minutes. AC charging is 11 kW, with a full charge taking about ten hours.
Technology
The EX90 uses dual Nvidia Drive AGX Orin computers delivering 500 TOPS, carried over from the ES90 sedan. The centre of the cabin is a 14.5-inch touchscreen with Google built-in, supplemented by Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, a 9-inch digital cluster and a head-up display. Audio is a 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins system. Digital Key Plus replaces the key fob, though a key card or tag is provided.
Comfort and Luxury
Seven seats are arranged in a 2-3-2 layout, with a six-seat 2-2-2 version planned. Features include 21-inch wheels, active air suspension, one-pedal driving, a powered tailgate and an electrochromic roof. The front seats are powered, ventilated and massaging, with four-zone climate control. Interiors are Nappa leather in either Charcoal with Light Ash décor or Cardamom with Brown Ash décor. Exterior colours include the new Mulberry Red, Onyx Black, Sand Dune, Crystal White and Vapour Grey.
Safety
Safety equipment includes dual front, side, inner side, curtain and driver knee airbags, ISOFIX, an integrated booster cushion and interior radar occupant sensing. Driver aids cover Pilot Assist, blind spot monitoring with steering assist, autonomous emergency braking, intersection auto brake, lane keeping assist, rear cross traffic alert, a 360-degree camera and Park Pilot Assist. Note that the roof-mounted LiDAR from earlier models has been removed.
Warranty
Volvo gives a five-year, unlimited-mileage vehicle warranty and an eight-year or 160,000 km battery warranty.
Pros and Cons
- Pros: lower price, much faster charging, more power, superb audio, family-friendly seven seats, strong safety credentials
- Cons: slightly smaller battery, LiDAR removed, still expensive, torque figure down
Verdict
The CKD EX90 is a more rational proposition than before. A lower price, faster charging and a sizeable cash rebate for early buyers combine to make it a credible alternative to German luxury SUVs. If you want a quiet, safe seven-seater with advanced technology, it deserves a test drive.
